- \u201cZoom Would Like to Access the Camera.\u201d Choose\u00a0OK<\/b>. This will allow your teacher to see your face, fingers and piano keys.<\/span><\/li>\n
- \u201cJoin with Video.\u201d\u00a0Press the blue button<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- \u201cZoom Would Like to Access the Microphone.\u201d Choose\u00a0OK<\/b>. This will allow you and your teacher to talk to each other and for your teacher to hear you play the piano.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- \u201cZoom Would Like to Send You Notifications.\u201d Choose\u00a0Allow<\/b>. The notification will be sent to you when your lesson is about to begin.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- In \u201cAdvanced settings\u201d on laptops choose \u201cEnable original sound.\u201d This means music will come through clearly without being suppressed as background noise.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
2.\u00a0 <\/span>A day or two before the lesson\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n\n- Send your teacher a photo of your last assignment sheet. (Text or email)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Confirm your Zoom meeting invite.\u00a0 <\/span>Check that you have the proper date\/time and the Zoom meeting link.\u00a0 <\/span>Add the Zoom meeting invite to your calendar. (Google, Outlook, etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
3.\u00a0 <\/span>One hour before the lesson\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n\n- Be sure your device is fully charged.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Find all of your music books and assignment book.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Find a pencil and eraser and have them ready at the piano.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Check that you\u2019ve clipped your fingernails.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
4.\u00a0 <\/span>10 minutes before the lesson\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n\n- Make sure you\u2019ve already used the washroom.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Remind other members in your household that it\u2019s time to limit their internet use. If someone in your home were streaming a movie, it would create a very poor connection for the online lesson.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Be ready at your instrument. (Very young students will need their parent\u2019s assistance.)<\/span><\/li>\n
- Set up your device as suggested.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A tablet or laptop can be set to the side of the student\u2019s piano.\u00a0 A simple set-up like a music stand, kitchen stool, or movable desk can work as a stand.\u00a0 If using a smartphone, experiment with landscape or portrait view for the best image showing the student\u2019s hands and keyboard. Setting the phone directly on the piano can give a good view.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n- Open your books to the pages you\u2019ll be using.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- You\u2019ll get a notification that the lesson is about to begin. You\u2019ll be asked to wait in the \u201cwaiting room.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
You will see a prompt to join the lesson.<\/span><\/p>\n5.\u00a0 <\/span>As the lesson begins\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n\n- You\u2019ll be invited to the meeting by your teacher.\u00a0 <\/span>Join.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
- Zoom will prompt: \u201cTo hear others please join audio.\u201d Choose\u00a0Call using Internet Audio<\/b>. <\/span><\/li>\n
- For better sound:\u00a0 <\/span>Make sure to click on \u201cTurn on original sound\u201d in the upper left corner of your screen.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Ask the student (or for young students, the parent) to write in the notes for this week\u2019s assignment sheet.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
6.\u00a0 <\/span>To end the lesson\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n\n- Confirm all lesson homework assignments and the next online lesson date\/time with your teacher.<\/span><\/li>\n
- On your screen you will see in red lettering, \u201cLeave Meeting.\u201d A pop-up prompt will ask you to confirm that you want to leave the meeting.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>After selecting \u201cLeave Meeting\u201d you will be disconnected. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
