88 Keys Music Academy Teacher Bio:

Darren was born in Toronto, raised in Beijing, where he began his classical music training in Piano and Music Theory. He moved to the US at the age of 15 and went on to get his masters in Piano and Film Scoring at the world-renowned music conservatory, Eastman School of Music. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles in 2021, and had composed many festival-worthy soundtracks for directors from USC, Chapman University, NYU, and Columbia University, including a 4-minute documentary score for the legendary director Wang Kar Wai.

Since 2017, Darren has hosted many vocal and beatboxing workshops for children and teenagers from China, Kenya, and the US. He has also taught piano lessons and given music consultation services to established filmmakers in Los Angeles. He believes that the most effective teaching method is curiosity and mindfulness driven, allowing students to explore their inner self and tune into their emotions through the power of music.

Darren also published an autobiographical novel titled The Impermanent Light in April 2021. In this coming-of-age story, he incorporates musical concepts and mindfulness ideologies while reflecting on his own experience of living in a foreign country.
