Robert Wang is a classical guitarist and composer whose work challenges traditional representations of the instrument by juxtaposing early and contemporary repertoire. His performances explore an expansive musical landscape, ranging from Renaissance masterpieces to 21st-century works, often presented in adventurous, multi-sensory pairings.

In addition to classical guitar, Robert specializes in early plucked string instruments, performing basso continuo and solo repertoire on theorbo, lute, and Baroque guitar. He is deeply committed to ensemble playing and has appeared with renowned groups and productions, including ASU Music Theatre and Opera (L’Orfeo), Bach Collegium San Diego, Early Music Vancouver (Vespers of 1610), Ensemble Flame, The Golden Bridge, Opera NEO (Ariodante), Shunske Sato, Sibelius Academy Baroque Orchestra (King Arthur), Tesserae Baroque, and USC Thornton Opera (Actéon). As a member of the USC Thornton Baroque Sinfonia, he was featured on CBS Sunday Morning. With Ensemble Flame, he recently recorded theorbo for their album O Mother, What Shall I Do.

Robert has been teaching classical guitar and keyboard since 2022, working with students of all ages, levels, and musical backgrounds. He served as guest faculty for the 2023 Summer Guitar Intensive Program at the University of Victoria, leading group technique workshops and masterclasses.

He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, where he also completed his Bachelor of Music. His studies include classical guitar with William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant, and Pepe Romero; early plucked strings with Jason Yoshida; composition with Veronika Krausas; harpsichord with Ian Pritchard; and conducting with Jacob Sustaita. His performances have taken him to esteemed venues including The Getty, Jordan Hall, and Phillip T. Young Recital Hall.
