Felicity: Hi, my name is Felicity, and today I’ll be interviewing Annie, founder of 88 Keys Music Academy. Hi, Annie!

Annie: Hi! Thanks for having me.

Felicity: Of course! To start, can you give us a little background on 88 Keys Music Academy?

Annie: Sure! I’m the founder of 88 Keys Music Academy. We’ve been around for about 12 years, and we love helping kids, students, and adults excel in their chosen instruments. It’s very rewarding for us to see our students grow and improve. So, please come and join us!

Felicity: That’s awesome. So, for parents out there who have children interested in music lessons, the variety of instruments to choose from can feel a little overwhelming—especially when thinking about what their child might enjoy now versus five years from now. In your opinion, what instrument should kids start with?

Annie: Well, I may be a little biased since I’m a pianist, but I truly believe the piano is a fantastic choice for beginners. It gives kids a solid foundation in musical concepts like melody, harmony, and rhythm. It’s also relatively easy to start with and can make transitioning to other instruments easier down the line.

For younger children, the violin can be a good option because it’s smaller and easier to handle. For slightly older kids, the guitar or ukulele is also a great choice.

Ultimately, the best instrument depends on your child’s interests and physical readiness—but piano is definitely one of the most versatile and widely recommended starting points.

Felicity: That’s great advice—thank you for sharing! I hope that helps a parent out there who’s trying to decide which direction to take with their child’s music education.
