Born and raised in Hong Kong, Kai Lee began his music studies at the age of three. He attended the International Christian Quality Music Secondary and Primary School in Hong Kong for 11 years, where he was selected for the prestigious music elite program. During his time there, he regularly performed as a soloist and in chamber music settings. He also served as the principal bassoonist in the school orchestra for several years. Kai further honed his skills by participating in numerous masterclasses to refine his piano techniques and musicality, earning the Associate Diploma in Piano Performance (ATCL) from Trinity College London. He excelled in the 6th Hong Kong Asia-Pacific Youth Piano Competition, winning awards in both the Chopin B and Sonata categories. Additionally, he competed in the Hong Kong School Music Festival, showcasing his talents in both piano and bassoon. Currently, Kai is pursuing a degree in piano performance at Biola University under the guidance of Dr. Beth Nam. He is actively involved in a variety of performances, including his junior recital, chamber music, orchestra concerts, and opera productions. In addition to his performing career, Kai has built a strong foundation in piano pedagogy through over two years of private teaching and tutoring, applying knowledge gained from various masterclasses and lessons. Kai is also an active participant in the Masterworks Music Festival, where he has served as both a counselor and a participant. The festival provided him with valuable opportunities to perform in recitals and masterclasses, studying with renowned faculty members such as Sean Kennard, Dr. Li-Shang Hung, Dr. Lori Rhoden, and Carter Johnson. He is particularly honored to have made his concerto debut as a soloist and one of the concerto competition winners, performing with the Masterworks orchestra conducted by David Chan, concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (MET).
